Record Turnout at Lough Fea 5K
On Saturday 7th January 2017, the second race of the Winter League attracted a record turnout of 214 runners, an increase of over 40% on last year’s numbers. Runners from across Ireland took to the flat trail around scenic Lough Fea in perfect weather conditions.
Eoin Hughes (Acorns AC) and Michael Crawley (City of Derry) continued their rivalry from the first race of the Series in Davagh Forest before the holidays, with Eoin coming out on top again to take first place in a time of 16:30, and Michael following him to take second place in 16:35. Third male was Mark Long of Foyle Valley AC who completed in 16:40.
In the ladies competition, Ciara Toner of Springwell Running Club improved on her second place in Davagh Forest 10K to cross the line in 19.35. Young and upcoming local junior athlete Grace Carson (Mid Ulster AC) finished second in an amazing time of 19:41, while third place went to Anne Paul of City of Derry for the second time this Series.

The second race in the Winter League Trail Series is the 5K on the trail around Lough Fea on 7th January 2017 at 12 noon. Registration is from 11am to 11.45am.
This 5K course is flat and fast and is suitable for both experienced runners aiming for a fast time, and also beginners / novice runners looking for an easy starter race. As usual there will be refreshments served after the race.
Your usual road running shoes are suitable for all our trail races. However it may be advisable to wear shoes that give you sufficient support as some of the trails can be uneven with loose or soft surfaces.
Directions to Lough Fea
Lough Fea is located half way between Cookstown and Draperstown along the B162 (Lough Fea Road). For anyone using a GPS the Postcode is BT80 9TU.
If travelling from Cookstown take the B162 (Lissan Road / Lough Fea Road) for Draperstown and travel for five miles. Lough Fea will be on your left hand side.Directions from Cookstown
If travelling from Draperstown, take the B47 (Sixtowns Road) through the village of Straw. Turn left at the crossroads onto the B162 (Disert Road / Lough Fea Road) and travel for approximately four miles. Lough Fea will be on your right hand side.Directions from Draperstown
