13 HARRIERS COMPLETE BELFAST MARATHON
13 of the Sperrin Harrier's finest headed up to Belfast on May Day to compete in the Belfast Marathon, on what turned out to be a very hot day. The first Sperrin Harrier across the line was Michael McGlade who has always had a great run in the Belfast Marathon and once again he got under the magic 3 hour mark in a time of 2:56:42, next to finish was Aidan O'Hagan who has only really started training in the last year, he was running his first marathon and finished in 3:05:24, next in line was Mel Hughes who will have to wait till the Dublin Marathon to break the 3 hour mark as he crossed the line in 3:06:46, Niall Higgins whose lack of training this year let him down at mile 19 held him back from hitting the the 3 hour mark but he battled on to finish in 3:07:07. Mark Reid finished next with a 3:37:33 this was a great run by Mark who is not long back in training after a 5 year break, just 4 seconds behind him was Gareth Cardwell in 3:37:37, next to finish was Trevor Dallas in 3:42:10 then Joe Curry in 3:44:26, new member of the club Ian Glendinning has been training hard for a Ironman Triathlon but he still finished in a great 3:49:21 but hopes to do better in The Newry Marathon at the end of May. Oliver Murphy had a good steady run to cross the line in 3:57:04, next to finish was the 'wee one' she might be small but she runs with the heart of a lion and got her reward for all her hard training over the last year and it was Joanne Bell running her first marathon and she finished in 3:57:22, another new member to join the club was Russell Bell in 4:32:36 he was closely followed in by Natasha Henry in 4:34:57 whom is another new athlete to the club.
We had a lot athletes competing in the relay teams, these are some of them Gregory Cahoon, Irwin Spiers, Louise Kelly, Alastair Ferguson and Connor Martin. Apologies to anyone not mentioned in the relay teams. Well done to everyone who competed.
