Report from An Creagan 5M 2019 Race Review – part of the 2018/2019 Winter league series

Well done to all those who took part in our third race of the Series, An Creagan 5M. There was an amazing turnout with 170 runners toeing the line in perfect running conditions.

Competition was strong yet again and despite some tricky parts on the course, some great times were achieved, with a number of finishers breaking the 30 minute thresholds. Eoin Hughes (Acorns AC) led from the off and held his lead take the honours, crossing the line first in a great time of 27:24. He was followed by Connor Reid of Ballymena Runners AC who finished in 28:22, just a second ahead of Seamus Bradley (Unaffiliated) who completed the first three in a great time of 28:23.

In the ladies, once again it was Gillian Wasson of Ballymena Runners AC who took the honours first to finish in a time of 32:31, complementing her wins in the first two races of the Series at Davagh Forest 10K and Lough Fea 5K. Olivia Mullin (Greencastle AC) repeated her second place at Lough Fea 5K finishing in 33:42, with Laura Mitchell of host Club Sperrin Harriers completing the top three in 35:05 to complement her second place at Lough Fea 5K.

Well done to all those who took part and thank you to all of those who helped stage the event and supported the runners on the course. Particular thanks goes to An Creagan Centre for the use of the venue and the post race refreshments, to those providing the timing services, Emergency Medical Services for providing medical cover for the event, and of course to race sponsor Trade Mouldings, Cookstown. We look forward to seeing you at the next race Drum Manor Forest 10K on 2nd February 2019.
