Galbally 5M and 5k

On Sunday 28th 35 Harriers attended Galbally, Tyrone, to take part in the 5M and 5k races, an event organised by Galbally Runners. Both distances started and finished at the Galbally Community Centre, winding through the hilly local countryside with weather that remained dry and relatively cool given the time of year. In addition to well marshalled courses, the fine refreshments and facilities laid on by the organisers were much appreciated by those in attendance.

In the 5 mile race Brian Taggart distinguished himself yet again, placing 4th overall and taking first in the Male Over 40 category (28:34). Hannah Glasgow (43:36), Ellen Glasgow (43:37), and Ellie Robinson (44:11) also stood out taking 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively in the Female Under 18 category. Congratulations go to Richard Fox and Brian O’Donnell who achieved personal bests of 35:38 and 36:04. In the 5k Karen Devlin (23:21) had a great day on placing as the 2nd lady overall.

Now in its 18th year the Stanley Reid Memorial 5 Mile Classic takes place on Friday 2nd August, from Loughry Campus Cookstown, at 7.30 pm.

It is dedicated to the memory of Stanley Reid, a fine runner in his own right who organised the first 5 mile classic in 2002. He was also instrumental in the formation of Cookstown Harriers, later to become Sperrin Harriers.
Many thanks to our main sponsor, Henry Brothers (Magherafelt) Ltd, for helping to make this event possible.
This year’s chosen charity is Mid Ulster Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Please note that a light weight technical running T-Shirt is available for the first 250 entries.

Race entry is £11 for affiliated runners, and £13 for those unaffiliated (Online entry closes on Midnight Monday 29th). Entry is available on the night and will be £13 for affiliated runners, and £15 for unaffiliated entrants. The minimum age for participants is 15.

For a more relaxed evening there is the ‘Family Mile Fun Run/Walk’. This event takes place at 6.45 pm within the confines of Loughry Campus, away from any traffic. It is suitable for all the family, both young and old, and in keeping with the fun aspect no times or placings will be recorded. There is no age limit and all fun run finishers will receive a medal.
