On Sunday Sperrin Harriers took to the podium at the DUNE Half Marathon, along with running the Craigavon Lakes 3 Quarter Marathon as part of their training. The club also enjoyed top positions at the MUSA Parkrun.
DUNE Half Marathon
A field of over 450 attended the DUNE Half Marathon on Sunday, an event included in the Pure Running 2019 Half Marathon Series. The course was somewhat altered from last year’s route but still crossed the border between Northern and Southern Ireland, beginning in Newry and concluding in Dundalk.
Harrier Joanne Taggart produced another very impressive performance, taking 2nd female amongst tenacious competition in 1:34:44.
Craigavon Lakes 3 Quarter Marathon
On Sunday the Craigavon Lakes 3 Quarter Marathon took place in Craigavon’s Citypark, consisting of slightly over six laps of the course followed by the local Parkrun. The event included pacers, and was very much geared towards assisting runners in their full marathon preparations.
Taking part on the day were Harriers Richard Fox, who completed in 2:45.13; Tanya Quinn and Doc Martin, who both finished in 2:46.42; Nicola Gillespie (2:55.43); Fiona Atkinson (3:10.13); Kevin Heenan (3:14.01); and Steven Dornan.
The Holywell 3k and Albertville 5k
The first Holywell 3k took place in Antrim on Saturday 28th, organised by Northern Health and Social Care Trust; and the Albertville Harriers celebrated their 100th year by hosting the Albertville 5k on Sunday 29th in Belfast.
Congratulations to David O’Brien who returned from injury to run at both events.
