Harriers Enjoy a Happy Easter Weekend

Sperrin Harriers had a busy and successful Saturday, attending the Beragh 5 Mile Road Race, also taking podium places and achieving personal bests at a variety of Parkruns.

Beragh 5 Mile Road Race and 5k

A highlight of the local running calendar, the Beragh 5 Mile Road Race and 5k Fun Run/Walk took place on Saturday in the scenic Tyrone countryside, Southeast of Omagh. A field of 155 tackled the 5 mile race, with 218 taking to the 5k distance.

Sperrin Harriers turned out for the testing 5 mile course, Paul McLaughlin leading the club home in 32:04, followed by Jason O’Neill (35:33), Steven Dornan (36:47), Gavin O’Hagan (37:15), Richard Fox (37:29) and Grainne O’Hagan (41:59).

Well done to our runners, and thank you to the event organisers for a great day out.

MUSA Parkrun, Cookstown

A large turnout of 95 attended Cookstown on Saturday, with Adrian Devlin holding his own in a fast field to take a very impressive third overall with a tremendous course personal best of 16:54. Sam Cuddy joined him in 20:45, with Damien Kelly crossing the line in 20:57, Paula McMenemy securing second lady overall in 22:05. Martin Kolbohm completed in 22:55, with Terry Hughes registering a great new course PB of 23:49, followed by Leigh Stirrup in his first MUSA run (24:14); Barry O’Neill (27:20); William Stirrup (28:28); Wendy McLean (31:23); Ellen Glasgow (32:00) and Hannah Glasgow (32:15). Congratulations to Amelia Corey who registered a tremendous personal best of 36:35, with Tanya Quinn shepherding the participants home in 46:09 as the volunteer Tailwalker.

Derrynoid Forrest Parkrun

It was a double first for Andrew Newell who topped the podium in his inaugural outing at Derrynoid with an impressive 17:29. Michael McCrory crossed the line in 26:04, followed by Teresa McCrory (44:37), in her own first run at the forest course.

Enniskillen Parkrun

Gordon Linton achieved a win at his first Enniskillen Parkrun, leading the field of 85 in 19:10. Gareth Linton also had reason to celebrate his own initial performance at the course, registering a new 5k PB of 21:24.

Dungannon Park Parkrun

In a hard fought finish for the top three female places, Rachel Hughes emerged a well deserved first in 21:06. Malcolm McCullough crossed the line in 21:44, to be joined by Martin Donaghy in 27:26.

Citypark Parkrun, Craigavon

It was double celebrations at Citypark on Saturday as both Alannarose Farley and Catherine Farley achieved new course PBs, of 21:49 and 23:05 respectively.

Comber Parkrun

Colly Gallagher continued his countrywide Parkrun adventures, attending yet another course for the first time, completing Comber in 22:51.

Endcliffe Parkrun, Sheffield

Joanne Fingleton and Rebecca Flanagan travelled to Sheffield for their weekend Parkrun, Joanne experiencing Endcliffe for the first time, with both ladies crossing the line in 27:18.

Stunnerz in Runnerz

After a Covid enforced break Sperrin Harriers is excited to announce that our ladies only Stunnerz in Runnerz is back.

The event takes place on Saturday 11th June at 12noon, and covers a chip timed 5k at the scenic Drum Manor Forest Park, outside Cookstown. The day will include a dance warm up at the beginning, with an ice cream van on site for essential refreshment afterwards.
