Podium Places for Harriers at the Weekend

On an eventful Saturday Harriers attended the Glenarm Castle Challenge, and enjoyed Parkrun success.

Glenarm Castle Challenge

The Born 2 Run organised Glenarm Castle Challenge was held on Saturday and included a range of distances, namely the Half Marathon, 10k and 5k, along with a 10k walk. The day took place at the historic Glenarm Castle estate, including a scenic mix of forest trails, farmland, and views along the Glenarm River.

Damien Atkinson followed his Omagh Half Marathon performance from only six days ago with another 13.1 miles at Glenarm, completing the tough course in a great time of 1:50:54.

Dungannon Park Parkrun

It was a day of firsts for the Sperrin Harriers at Dungannon, Andrew Newell heading the field yet again with his time of 18:25, Rachel Hughes also topping the podium once more to take first lady in 21:35. They were followed by Malcolm McCullough in 22:08, Terry Hughes in 25:18, and Laura Treanor, who crossed the line as volunteer Tailwalker in 36:55.

Hillsborough Forest Parkrun

Colly Gallagher continued his Parkrun journey on attending yet another course for the first time, completing the Hillsborough Forest event in 23:11.

Derrynoid Forest Parkrun

Jane Thom crossed the line at picturesque Derrynoid in 26:05.

MUSA Parkrun, Cookstown

Cookstown saw 74 Parkrunners on Saturday, Paula McMenemy leading the Harriers home with Damien Kelly, both crossing the line in 22:10. Gavin O’Hagan followed in 23:09, pursued by Martin Kolbohm (23:13), Patsy Hughes (23:25), Tanya Quinn (24:03), and Louise Kelly (25:34).

Stunnerz in Runnerz

After a Covid enforced break Sperrin Harriers is excited to announce that our ladies only Stunnerz in Runnerz is back.

The event takes place on Saturday 11th June at 12noon, and covers a chip timed 5k at the scenic Drum Manor Forest Park, outside Cookstown. The day will include a dance warm up at the beginning, with an ice cream van on site for essential refreshment afterwards.

Registration is online only, with no on the day entries, and is £13 affiliated or £15 un-affiliated.
