Sperrin Harriers Enjoy Successful Weekend

Sperrin Harriers runners were out in force over the weekend, with a number of very strong performances and PBs achieved.

Born2Run Loughgall 10k

On Saturday, Stephen Lynch took on the Born2Run 10k in Loughgall Country Park. The course contained a number of significant hills and mixed terrain. Despite these challenges, Stephen achieved a new PB in a fantastic time of 48.41, taking over 1 minute off his previous time.

Seeley Cup 10k

Belfast’s Ormeau Park once again hosted the prestigious 10k event. On a crisp Saturday Autumn afternoon, the weather was perfect and the fast course provided the optimum conditions for racing.

The club was well represented and a number of PBs were obtained. Brian Taggart led the club home in a swift time of 33.53 (PB), followed by Andrew Newell 34.28 (PB).

Also taking part were Paul McLaughlin 38.44, Richard Fox 44.03, Michael McCrory 48.21, and Louise Kelly 53.30.

MUSA Parkrun, Cookstown

Ryan Treanor continued his fine run of form, finishing with a time of 17.10, earning him a PB and 1st place overall. Fellow Harriers, Brendan Gildernew and Fred Devlin finished 2nd and 3rd with times of 17.51 and 18.31 respectively, meaning Sperrin Harriers sealed the top 3 places.

Jarleth Loughran 21.02, and Karen Devlin 22.17 both ran fantastic times, to achieve PBs.

Other Harriers who completed the Parkrun were Peter Mitchell 20.53, Damien McCaffrey 21.27, Niall Devlin 21.34, Tanya Quinn 23.04, Martin Kolbohm 23.06, Patricia Boyle 23.50, Barry O’Neill 25.22, Gillian Robinson 26.48, Hannah Glasgow 48.01, Ellen Glasgow 48.01 and Theresa O’Hare 50.08 (Tailwalker).

Dungannon Park Parkrun

At the forever picturesque event, Harriers Fergal McElroy 22.24, Russell Bell 24.46, Martin Donaghy 25.16 and Catherine Farley 25.47 all ran the Parkrun in competitive times.

Light the Forest 2019

In the early hours of Sunday morning, Cheryl Cardwell took part in the Blood, Sweat and Tears 6 hour challenge.

Located in Parkanaur, the route was a repetition of 1 mile loops. Cheryl completed a staggering 28 loops. Moreover, this very impressive performance was capped by her finishing as 3rd female in the event.

Sperrin Harriers Winter League

The Sperrin Harriers Winter League continues with the Lough Fea 5k on Saturday 14th December at 12 noon, an event located in the foothills of the Sperrin Mountains which follows a flat and fast course that circles the striking lake.

We would like to thank Kelly’s Pharmacy in Stewartstown for being the main sponsor of the Lough Fea 5k.

The Winter League has grown into one of Northern Ireland’s best loved set of trail races, attracting all types of runners from beginners to top athletes. Its popularity is testament to the picturesque venues, great atmosphere, and warm welcome that make the League so unique.

The 4 remaining League races are.

  • Lough Fea 5k, on 14th December 2019
  • An Creagan 5M, on 11th January 2020
  • Drum Manor 10k, on 1st February 2020
  • Parkanaur Forest 10M, on 15th February 2020

All races are chip timed and entry is £7 affiliated, £9 unaffiliated. Tea, coffee and refreshments are served to everyone taking part.
