Sperrin Harriers in Autumn Action

Over the Halloween weekend, the runners of Sperrin Harriers showed no signs of fear, taking part in a number of different events including parkruns across various locations.

In parkrun events, the men had an exceptional weekend, taking the first finishers spots at three separate events. They were Brendan Gildernew at MUSA Cookstown (18.07), Andrew Newell at Armagh (18.09) and Gordon Linton at Ecos (18.01).

At Antrim parkrun, Joanne Fingleton finished as third lady in a time of 22.27.

Also taking part in MUSA parkrun were; Steven Dornan (21.37), Joshua Charleton (22.03), Damien Atkinson (25.52) and Barry O’Neill (28.10).

Malcolm McCullough took part in Dungannon Park parkrun, finishing in a time of 21.35.

Jason O’Neill took part in Osterley parkrun, located west of London, finishing in a time of 22.24.

Mark Reid and Tanya Quinn took part in Purvis Running’s Day of Friendly 5000s. This was a 5000m track event held at Meadowbank Sports arena. They both finished in fantastic times of 19.30 and 23.36 respectively.

On Sunday, a number of Harriers travelled to Armagh for the highly anticipated Armagh 10 Mile Road Race. The route undulated for most of the way, however, the fast finish to the route provided an opportunity for a good race. Martin Kolbohm finished with a personal best time of 81.24. Also taking part were Paul McLaughlin (63.46), Doc Martin (76.09), Richard Fox (78.11), Cate Farley (84.42) and Louise Kelly (86.27).

Sperrin Harriers have launched the 2021/22 Winter League series. The Winter League has grown into one of Northern Ireland’s best loved set of trail races, attracting all types of runners from beginners to top athletes. Its popularity is testament to the picturesque venues, great atmosphere, and warm welcome that make the League so unique.

The events are as follows: Lough Fea 5k – Sat 11th December 2021 (Sponsored by Oliver Corey Garages), An Creagan 5M- Sat 8th January 2022 (Sponsored by Coagh Pharmacy), Drum Manor 10k – Sat 29th January 2022 (Sponsored by TES), Parkanuar 10M – Sat 26th February 2022.
